Postmodern, traditional jewelry

Cat Priem grew up in the Dutch coastal town of Scheveningen, a place known for its traditional costumes. As a child, Cat already admired the splendid coral chokers the women of Scheveningen would wear. Later she decided to make her own, slightly more contemporary and personal renditions.

The collection „Zeewaardig” („Seaworthy”) centers around the sculptured shapes of coral combined with blackened silver. Like the Trophies of a Serial Killer series, there is more to this collection than at first meets the eye. One of the pieces has an ornately decorated clasp according to tradition. Except the customary fishing boat decoration is replaced by a warship. Rich tradition meets contemporary irony.
